I ended up caving and buying Quicktime 7 Pro, despite the firestorm of negative reviews on the Quicktime website.
Basically, the thing I found is that it isn't hard to use, as long as the file is already in Quicktime format (which basically means I can get movie trailers, and nothing else). Beyond that QT 7 Pro is pretty much useless and overpriced and painfully slow.
I also found handbrake, and apparently, there is a quasi-successful version for PC. Basically, it's an experimental version that is hard to understand/use.
I'm basically looking for things like episodes of Family Guy, The Simpsons, etc. Anything to occupy my time between classes or between shifts at work.
I don't know if it's possible to get a DVD to Quicktime format, maybe I could download the episodes from somewhere in QT format. Let me know if you have any ideas.
