My Daredevil Cat

Since I have an easy to use camera now, I'm always filming trying to find something to put on the Tube. In the midst of filming around the house, our cat Jasmine embraced the daredevil that she is and climbed the tree in the front yard.

So, I must tell you about this Canon HF10 camcorder. AWESOME!!! It's light and convenient and there's no tape and immensely easy to use with iMovie.

Here's the other thing. The quality in insane. After I shot our crazy cat, I went inside to hook the camera up to the tv. At first, there was a hurdle as the HDMI out of the camera is actually an HDMI mini plug. Luckily, the HF10 comes with component cables (the red, green, and blue analog cables) so I used those for what I thought was a temporary situation.

I can not stress to you enough how stunning the image was. I went analog out of the HF10 into our 65" Sharp Aquos and the picture was amazing. Kristine, who never says much about tv quality without prompting, immediately commented on how good the image looked. The Canon HF10 camcorder is an amazing piece of work.

P.S. While, I love the YouTube, I decided to use iMovie to post the second part on my .mac account. You can go here for the slightly improved image quality.

New Camera

On Friday, I decided I needed to get myself a new camcorder that was more portable than my HDV camcorder. I went up to Best Buy in Orange and picked up the Canon HF10, a flash camera(no tape) that records in Hi Def (1080i). Here are some random clips from when I went into work Sunday morning as well as our cats on Memorial Day.

P.S. Those of you reading this on the Live365 page can just skip over this post as it has no radio added value whatsoever. The top 25 returns next weekend.

Me And The Cup

While I've never been know to fancy hockey the way, say a Canadian would, I must admit, I was a little star struck to be standing in the presence of the Stanley Cup yesterday, when it paid a visit to our hockey studio here at Versus. That cup has seen more than I can imagine and now I'm part of it's history.

How Fond I Am Of My Tunes

Yesterday, I decided to burn some cds of this weeks YOT200 Top 50 because Mike Falzone, a friend and coworker of mine made it to number 47 with his song Fenway. Now, I'll be honest about Mike's tunes. It's possible that when you hear his music on my station, you might not think he's the best artist for the station's format. Still, his music grew on me after a couple of listens and what's that point of having a radio station if you can't promote your friends every now and then.

So I burned the cds of the Top 50 and got in the car for my hour commute and I was just blown away. I've really put together a station that reflects music that I love to listen to. I tend to be more of a shuffle person rather than a mix tape person when it comes to listening to tunes in the car but I was more than thrilled to be listening to a list of music that's the core foundation of the radio station that I've created.

In other station news... I often get requests from up n coming bands to give their music consideration for the Live365 station. I tend to ignore these requests for a number of reasons. I've had artists not get back to me. There's something out there called Submit.com which requires me to sign up for something and that's just a pain in the ass. Probably, the biggest reason is the music isn't that great. I've got artists like Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, Guns N Roses, Linkin Park, Smashing Pumpins, etc... I mean, if you're not awesome (or a friend of mine), you shouldn't be trying to get my attention.

That said, I didn't have any real emails to look at a few nights ago and so, on a whim, I clicked on one of my band submission emails. To my surprise, I really liked their songs. The name of the band is Swampdawamp and you can read all about them on their myspace page. Because Bryce Winter, a marketing manager at Miles High Productions was amazingly quick at getting back to me, you will be hearing the music of Swampdawamp in the upcoming weeks on the Year Of The 200.

The YOT200 Top 100 begins airing tonight at midnight and plays throughout the weekend. Here's this week's Top 25:

25. Rape Me - Nirvana
24. How Far We've Come - Matchbox Twenty
23. Cheer Up, Boys - Foo Fighters

This Weeks YOT200 Top 25

I must say, I'm really starting to get excited about my little internet radio station that could. I confess that I was beginning to wonder if all the effort I put into programming the station was worth it. I sometimes think that, with all the possibilities one has while choosing an outlet to listen to music,...well...I mean does anyone really care about listening to free internet radio? You've got your iPod and satellite radio can be streamed on the internet and plus there's regular old radio. There's just so much out there. I often think Live365 is the remnant of a time when the internet was this vast uncharted world that was going to make life better instead of the business as usual internet that we have today. Regardless, I'm staring to see greater interest in the station and it gives me pleasure to put something together that people want to listen to, sometimes 8 hours at a time. God bless ya.

That said, this week the station is currently at 859 listening hours and judging by the constant listenership, I'm very hopefull that I'll surpass 900 hours next week. The huge excitement for me this week happened Monday when I actually made it to the bottom of page 4 on the list of alternative stations. I'm back to the top of page 5 at the moment but Man, that was cool. Thanx again and keep on listening. Here's this week's Top 25 that you can hear all weekend along with the rest of the Top 100 tunes of The Year Of The 200.
